Do You Have Food Storage?

When I was growing up, my Mom and Dad had everything we needed in our garage, foodwise, if we had an emergency and could not get to the stores, we would be prepared. Tons of shelves of canned food and other shelf friendly foods.

I always felt secure in knowing that we had a long term food storage for “just in case“. It was very important to my parents to have this for the family. I only wish this was instilled in me!

I know the importance of food storage, but with the tough times that everyone is facing with the economy, right now is kinda of the emergency time, so our food storage that we did have is now non existant. So, it did serve it’s purpose, but now we don’t really have one anymore! Ugh.

Sure we have some freeze dried food in our cupboards set aside, but we need more than that. There are some great sites out there that help you plan a food storage. It will say all the necessities that you need, to be prepared in case of an emergency. It is never a bad time to try to start putting some food aside for this. We are going to start slow and build our supply. I will catch great sales on canned food and dried food to slowly add to ours. Times like these, I wish I was good at couponing. Those extreme couponers have nothing to worry about!

Some Tips To Starting A Food Storage:

*Find a room where you want to store the food (closet, laundry room, pantry) and make shelves or make sure that the shelves that it does have are sturdy enough for canned foods

*Grab a notebook and start an inventory. Even if you don’t have much at first, you will get more later on. Keep track of how much of something you do have and write it down. This makes it much easier to see what you do have and what you will need more of.

*Plant a garden in the Spring and can!!!! My mom did this. She made pickles, jams and more and stock piled them in the garage on shelves. Yes, it won’t last forever, but it will be there if you need it.

*Keep a variety of foods. Don’t get the same things. Just because there is an emergency, does not mean you have to eat the same thing every day! Mix it up a bit and keep it interesting.

*Don’t forget about medication or medicines! I can’t stress enough about this one. Me and hubby have this part kind of covered. He gets ibuprofen from work, in the little packets and we keep them in a bag for when we need it. But, it is important to have medicine for emergencies too. That and a first aid kit!!!

These are just  a few tips I learned along the way, from my parents. Save $10 a week and use that money to start your food storage. You will be happy and more content if you get started as soon as you can!

The New Hess Toy Truck Has All The Bells and Whistles!

The new Hess Toy Truck made its debut on November 11th and it was a big hit!! And, on December 2nd, the free 2011 Hess Racer Game App will be available for  iPhone/iPad and Facebook! Too much fun!

This is one cool truck, with all the bells and whistles! It has great craftsmanship and help encourage imaginative play. Prep & Landing Review and Giveaway!!

Prep & Landing is out today, 11/22!!! This is a very cute movie for the whole family. It is a holiday story about a high-tech team of elves who ensure all the homes around the world are ready for Santa to visit!!

An elf named Wayne works tirelessly for  227 years (voiced by David Foley), so he is super upset when he does not receive a promotion. Instead, he is partnered with an idealistic rookie elf named Lanny. They are to execute a very important Christmas mission together.

While on this journey, the two elves encounter some challenges, that really push them to their limits and ultimately threatens Christmas! We received a copy of this cute holiday movie and me and my kids really enjoyed it. My 5-year-old son has asked to watch it numerous times since we received this movie. His favorite part is the elves making sure Santa can visit each house.

The animation is really cute too. I love such clear and crisp animation and the fun “different” storyline. It is colorful, silly at times and entertaining for the whole family to watch. Great movie to put on for holiday gatherings and is sure to entertain the young and old!

This movie made its debut TODAY, 11/22, so grab your copy just in time for the holidays! This would also make a great stocking stuffer for your kids!! You will love it, promise, it is too cute not to!

Healthy Choice Top Chef Inspired Café Steamers Review

Eating healthy is very important to me and my family. I always try to feed myself and my family healthy choices. But some days are so busy for us that it can be a challenge! Sometimes I just want to go through that drive-thru!

I had the chance to try out Healthy Choice Top Chef Inspired Cafe Steamers and was excited to do so. They arrived on dry ice ready for me to stick in my freezer or the microwave! I received the Roasted Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms and Barbecue Seasoned Steak with Red Potatoes. The Healthy Choice Top Chef Inspired Café Steamers bring an all-star lineup of bold, modern and exciting flavors to give you exactly what you want – food that is both healthy and delicious.


The first one I tried was the Roasted Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms Healthy Choice Top Chef Inspired Steamers. It sounded fabulously delicious! When I opened it I noticed big pieces of chicken throughout it. Read the directions and put it in the microwave. Once it was done, I opened it, poured the veggies and meat in with the sauce (which is in the bottom half of the bowl) and mixed it up. The unique steaming technology separates the sauce from the rest of the entrée to steam the meal in the microwave, allowing for crisp vegetables, tender meats and al dente pastas.

 The sauce in this dish was kind of sweet to me and very good. The veggies were plump, as you can see in the picture, and tasted really good. The noodles were cooked just right so there was no under cooked ones in this dish.  I really liked the big juicy chicken pieces in this meal too. I shared this with my two kids and added a dinner roll. It filled us up and tasted great. This is a meal for one person, but I shared it with my kids, because a lot is there!

Our David’s Bridal Shopping Experience!

I have always enjoyed pretty things. Dresses and cute things are just fun to wear. I also have two nieces who absolutely LOVE pretty, girly things. So when I told them I was taking them and their mom (my sister, duh!), to David’s Bridal, to try on some fun, girly dresses they were soooo excited!


When we arrived at David’s Bridal, the staff were there to greet us. They were extremely helpful and answered all of our questions. They showed us dresses, matched to my nieces preferences. My nieces were in heaven!

 

They each tried on a number of gorgeous special occasion dresses. We noticed that even the dresses that were not on sale, were still affordable. But the ones on sale were such a bargain!!! So, the girls tried on the dresses that were not on sale and some dresses that were. They modeled for me and in front of the mirrors. There were some brides there, trying on dresses too, so that was fun to watch them!

David’s Bridal also had some really fun and beautiful accessories. From earrings and necklaces to bracelets and shoes and so much more!! The selection was just perfect and well-balanced.

 

David’s Bridal had comfy seating for me to sit on and spacious dressing rooms. The store itself was just so nice looking and filled with gorgeous dresses and nice looking tuxedos. The selection of dresses exceeded my expectations totally. I was very impressed with how me and my nieces were treated and we left with two dresses, one for each girl! They could not have been happier!!

 

So, now my nieces have dresses for their winter formal, Score! And their mom is so happy!!

Also, the speakers are great. Makes you feel like you are “in” the game, makes it so much better. The chair also tilts and swivels easily so that you can get your whole gaming effect on! Hubby says A++++! Video game chairs are definitely pretty cool!!

Money Saving Tips For The Holidays From BillFloat (& Two $50 Visa Gift Card Giveaways!)

·         Invest in Water! A popular fable is about the person who put the amount they normally pay for their Starbucks Latte and invested it and they had thousands of dollars over the years.  To take that one step further, cutting back on the sodas, alcohol and other beverages can equal even more savings.  Water is free and it is better for you in the long run.

·         Never Pay Full Price!  Tis the season for deals! The holiday season is filled with discounts, as retailers, restaurants and other merchants compete over every penny they can get.  Look for coupons, discounts and sales, and only buy what is NEEDED vs. WANTED.

·         Do the Homework! When making a large purchase, taking out a short-term loan or determining how to use your money, find the best rate.  Just because a big bank is offering a “convenient” loan, doesn’t mean that there aren’t credible online lenders that have better interest rates and lower fees.

·         Get Back to the Spirit of the Season! Instead of going lavish with shows, tons of presents and parties, invest in serving and giving time to others in need this holiday season.  There are many great causes that may be local, and will make this time of year one of the most memorable by helping those in need.

·         Turn Up Your Sweater! Lowering the thermostat a few degrees can save hundreds of dollars a year.  It is easy to put on another sweater or blanket and snuggle, while watching TV.
