*This post is brought to you by BestNursingHomes.com. Opinions are my own.
Guess what? May 27, 2015 is National Senior Health & Fitness Day, yay!! Because of this, I wanted to share with you, BestNursingHomes.com is a wonderful new resource for seniors!
My mom doesn’t like this whole ‘getting old‘ thing. She can’t bring herself to say she IS a senior! She is coming around though. My dad on the other hand, he doesn’t care, never has. It is what it is, he always says.
Thankfully both my parents are still alive, healthy and totally able to take care of themselves in a two-story house. I am so happy that they are able to have the home I grew up in, so me and my kids can visit! It is so nice to be able to do that.
But, what if something happened (God forbid!) to one of them? What if one became disabled and unable to care for themselves? Or what if they just wanted to live somewhere smaller where they could be on their own, but still receive help, if needed? That is where BestNursingHomes.com comes into play.
What Is BestNursingHomes.com?
They are a new website that allows people to make informed decisions in rehabilitation or nursing home care for themselves or their loved ones. This website provides a comprehensive database of all Medicare rated 5 star facilities (and selected 4 star facilities).
This website is available at no charge, to the public through the Association of Skilled Nursing Providers (ASNP). ASNP is a nonprofit advocacy organization that is dedicated to educating the public about caring for the aging and promoting the best possible practices among health care providers.
If you or someone you know, has questions like the ones below, then BestNursingHomes.com is the place to visit for some answers:
“Mom just got a hip replacement. She has to be out of the hospital, but she’s too sick to go home. What should we do?”
“Dad has dementia, and his health has declined to the point that it’s unsafe for him to be at home. Help!”
“I need somewhere to recover from heart surgery. I don’t want to be a burden to my kids and wish there were somewhere I could go with advanced medical care. Do I have any options?”
There IS options! Sometimes you DO need medical care that simply cannot be taken care of at home or even at a hospital. Sure there are home health companies that can come into your home and take care of the very basics for you, but if you need more advanced medical care, help is available to you. It is called ‘post-acute‘ care center also known as a ‘nursing home‘.
When most people hear someone say ‘nursing home‘ they cringe. Why? Because they have received a bad rap over the years. But, what many people don’t know is that there are really good ones out there too. They are not all bad.
The rehabilitative centers look and feel more like comfy hotels than hospitals or ‘nursing homes‘. They also give you more personalized therapy and the attention you deserve. But, to find these places you need to visit BestNursingHomes.com. This online site is just what seniors have been looking for!
What’s different about this site than others?
BestNursingHomes.com lists ONLY the best sites. Anything on the list has been pre approved by Medicare as one of the top in the country.
There’s no annoying sales center. Best Nursing Homes is run by a nonprofit organization whose public mission is to make people aware of the good places to go. It’s a free list.
You don’t have to enter any personal information. No one is going to contact you when you search the site.
You can contact the nursing homes directly. If you see an option that you like, simply call the facility or send an email using the contact form.
You can see what the center looks like. For the facilities that have chosen upgraded listings, you can take a virtual tour of the building with slide show photos and videos.
You can review what others’ experiences were like. Best Nursing Homes uses proprietary software to get real reviews from real residents and family members. And they’re authentic—there’s no gaming from competitors or advertisers.
Best Nursing Homes has been made possible by the generous donation of North American Health Care and its CEO, John Sorensen. John has made it his life’s work to serve the elderly population and has sponsored the development of BNH and donated it to the ASNP for use. “We are very grateful for the leadership of John Sorensen in the post-acute care industry,” said Amy Osmond Cook, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Association for Skilled Nursing Providers. “John is a leader in his field, a generous philanthropist, and a great example of someone who places serving the patient above anything else. We are proud to be associated with John and North American Health Care and grateful for his support to promote best practices in skilled nursing.” – Amy Osmond Cook, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Association for Skilled Nursing Providers

Such a big decision to make. Our parents are not at that point yet, but my husband’s grandparents are. I can see how this resource would be so helpful!

When my mother had to go into a rehab facility last year, we had no idea how to find one. This resource will come in very handy if there is a next time.

This is a fabulous resource, especially as we our parents get older! I hope I don’t need a nursing home anytime soon for my mom but knowing there are options is great!

I think we all want the best for our parents (or loved ones) in their senior years. We just want to make sure they’re well taken care of.
