So, how can you get started with a hobby you can do at home? It’s actually not that difficult. You just need to set some time aside in your schedule and start with the basics. Here are Five top hobbies that are easy to do at home, that you may want to try.

Knitting

If you have seen some of the complicated knitwear that is available to buy, you may be thinking that you will never be able to produce anything which looks that good. But, you will be amazed by what you can do, if you just give yourself time to learn. It should only take a couple of weeks to learn the basics of how to cast on and off, how to create a knit stitch and how to create a purl stitch. But, it can take a lot longer to be able to follow complicated patterns. Start by purchasing some knitting wool and needles, and practice by creating squares, or something simple, like a scarf.

Winemaking

If you love to sit in your garden with a drink in your hand, when the weather is good, you may want to have a go at making your own wine. You can save hundreds of dollars over time, and once you get used to the process you can be more adventurous with the types of wine you create. From dandelion to damson; you just need to experiment and have fun.

Painting

Painting is a good choice of a hobby if you have a creative streak. It can become expensive once you start to get heavily involved; especially if you decide to invest in good quality oil paints. But, you can start by buying a reasonably priced watercolor pad and a box of watercolor paints. You can go to the local park and paint from life, or take some photographs so that you can work on your painting at home. You may also want to try portrait painting or still life.

Genealogy

If creating things is not for you, investigating might be. This is what genealogy is all about. You need to piece together the clues, to find out about the past generations of your family. It gives you a fascinating insight into where you come from, and your research is an excellent gift to pass down through future generations. You do not need a lot of resources to make a start. You can check out information online. You do have to pay for some searches, but you can usually get a free trial when you start. Many local libraries also contain archives about people who lived in the locality. Start with talking to people in your family, and find out what they know. You can create your family tree from there.

Dressmaking

Much like knitting, dressmaking can help you save money on the purchase of clothes, over time. It’s a good idea to start out with a very basic pattern and progress as you become more confident. You can learn about hand stitching to begin with; start by getting used to simple tasks, such as hemming. Then, you can use a sewing machine, to start making your own clothes.

All of these hobbies can add interest to your daily life. You can also learn new things, and put your new skills to good practical use.
