While discovering your true style is a gradual process, understand that this process needs to take time and in the end, it’s worth it. You’ll have the chance to discover yourself and your taste all without needing to spend much money!
How to Choose a Style that Feels Right for You
Start with a list
A great way to get your thoughts sorted out would be to just write them down. Ask yourself what some of your favorite styles are such as Mid-century modern, minimalism, etc., and then write down what qualities in those styles make you like them.
For example: “I like Boho-Chic because the style is very colorful and there’s a lot of mishmash in boho-inspired spaces”. This can be anything from shapes, what atmosphere it gives off, it’s your list, so you can write whatever you like.
Go to your closet
While this tip may sound a bit odd it can be great! Whether you’re looking for your style or trying to create a timeless approach to your home, fashion is a step in a good direction.
Interior design and fashion truly go together hand in hand, both have the power to elevate each other. Go to your closet and take a good look at some of your favorite clothes.
What are some features that you notice with your clothes? What are some of the colors you notice? How about textures or fabric? Do you see any common traits?
If you’re someone that wears mostly dark colors such as blacks and navy blue then there is a chance this could easily reflect your home.
If you are someone who enjoys comfort in your clothing then softer fabrics and round-soft edges may be ideal for your furniture and decorative accents then.
Gather inspiration
After writing things down in your list, you should then go online such as social media, look through books, watch TV, or even try an old fashion magazine for inspiration.
Other ways you can do this too would be by going to highly decorated areas such as art galleries, hotels, restaurants, and museums. Whenever you’re out, just be sure you’re aware of covid api. These sorts of areas help discover what is right for you.
You can also try going to department stores too, many department stores will cater to one or multiple home décor styles. Anthropologie is a department store that’s mainly geared towards the boho style as an example.
This gives you the chance to also feel around for what items and style you want. With department stores, you’re allowed to pick up items so getting a physical feel will be helpful too.
