No Teeth, No Problem. Good Dental Hygiene Starts Early!

Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month? I didn’t either, but do now! Oral healthcare is obviously very important in a child’s development and should really begin, way before your baby has teeth.

That is why when each of my kids was little and before their little teeth popped up, I would brush their gums with either a moist washcloth or teeth wipes. But there are also other ways to help keep your little one’s gums clean! Take a peek below at some products that will help your baby with their oral hygiene at an early age! Here is some of the best advice from dentists and products that can help!

4 Products to help with oral hygiene

1. “Give ‘em something safe to chew on!” Help to soothe your teething baby’s tender gums with Marcus & Marcus’ Teethers. These animal themed teethers are food-grade, brightly colored and designed for baby-safe fun. Plus, they are free of BPA, PVC, and phthalate and are also microwave, freezer and top-rack dishwasher safe!

Good Dental Hygiene Starts Early. Marcus & Marcus WILLO THE WHALE Silicone Baby Teether

For ages 6 months and up. Available Characters/Colors: Marcus the Lion (Red), Pokey the Pig (Pink), Lola the Giraffe (Yellow), Ollie the Elephant (Green) and Willo the Whale (Purple). MSRP: $8.99. Available online at www.Amazon.com.

Clutching Toy Magic Moons

2. “Look for products with different textures.” Dentists recommend textured teethers like the Clutching Toy Magic Moons by HABA to help soothe baby’s gums and assist the teeth with breaking through. Made of safe silicone, this teether’s fun flipping feature is sure to keep babies busy and is perfect for grasping and teething. For the Birth-1 year. MSRP: $7.89. Available online at www.HABAusa.com.

milkies-food-trays-90

3. “Limit Sugary foods”. Milkies Food Trays by Fairhaven Health allow parents to conveniently make and store homemade baby food so they know exactly what baby is eating. That means no additives, preservatives, starchy fillers, sugar or sodium! Made from BPA-free and phthalate-free food safe plastic, these trays allow you to freeze your Baby food in convenient 1-ounce servings. MSRP: $21.95. Available online at www.FairhavenHealth.com.

The First Years Disney Baby Mickey Mouse Simply Spoutless Cup

4. “Skip the sippy cup!”. Sippy cups prevent normal development of the mouth and can cause tooth decay and cavities which are why dentists recommend an open cup option like The First Years Disney Simply Spoutless Cups. It lets little ones drink naturally from anywhere around the rim just like an open cup but without the spills, so everything within 20-foot radius stays dry. Available in Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. For ages 12 months +. MSRP: $6.99. Available online at www.Walmart.com.

These are all great products to have on hand when your little one is ready. I would definitely start even earlier than that, with wiping down their gums, when you can. That way, when their little teeth start popping out, they will have the start of healthy teeth! Then you can pat yourself on the back, knowing you are doing all you can to help ensure the oral health of your child! Good mama!!
