Top 4 Attractions in New Mexico

Top 4 Attractions in New Mexico

1. Taos Pueblo. The Taos Pueblo in Taos, New Mexico is the oldest continuously inhabited community in the United States. The only living Native American community designated as both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historical Landmark. I visited there when I was a young girl. It was an unforgettable experience!

2. White Sands National Monument. This is truly an amazing and unique place. The White Sands area is made up of 275 square miles of great gypsum sand dunes, creating the world’s largest gypsum dune field. Temperatures can get up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, but because the sand is white, it stays cool. We visited in October so it was not too hot. It was nice to walk around on the sand barefoot.

3. Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Another one of the most amazing places to visit on Earth. The cave dates back to the Ice Age and recently they found artifacts of Ice Age Indian Hunters outside the cave entrance. You can tour the cave on  your own or arrange a ranger-guided tour. The caves are also home to nearly 400,000 bats and you can watch them exit the cave each night in search for food!

4. Route 66 runs through New Mexico and there are many roadside attractions that you can visit along the route. One of the most interesting and historical attractions on Route 66 is near the village of Pecos in Pecos National Historic Park. There you will find a huge complex of ancient Pueblo ruins and two Franciscan missions dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

I love, love, love New Mexico!! We have volunteered twice at Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and have spent a lot of time traveling in the state. Went to Santa Fe this spring as my son is with the Forest Service there & hiked in Bandelier National Monument. It is just a state full of wonders!

I’ve never actually been on vacation in New Mexico but I’ve driven through there.
I remember the rock formations being beautiful.
And that a lot of the people there looked like raisins.
    🙂
