TWISTERS Universal Home Entertainment movie is still in theaters but you can watch it from the comfort of your home, now. I know going to the movie theater is really fun, but sometimes you just want to relax and home and watch new movies, right?
I really did want to see TWISTERS in the movie theater but since we were too busy when it first came out on July 19th to go and see it in the theater so we waited. I am so glad we did wait because for some reason, watching TWISTERS in our living room was the BEST ever!

TWISTERS Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Touches Down!
TWISTERS is an exciting disaster movie filled with thrilling action. After a scary experience with a tornado, Kate (played by Daisy Edgar-Jones) decided to stop chasing storms and instead study them safely from her home in New York City.
However, her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) convinces her to return to storm chasing for a unique scientific opportunity. There, she meets Tyler (Glen Powell), a charming risk-taker known for his tornado-tracking adventures on social media.
As the storm season gets more intense with unusual and dangerous weather, Kate and Tyler realize they must team up to survive and handle the powerful tornadoes that are threatening their lives.

TWISTERS Back Story
In 1996, Amblin Entertainment and The Kennedy/Marshall Company changed the game for disaster movies with Twister, a huge hit made by the talented team of producer Steven Spielberg, bestselling author Michael Crichton, and director Jan de Bont.
This film made tornadoes exciting and scary to watch, thanks to groundbreaking special effects, and turned smart meteorologists into brave action heroes. Now, the franchise is back with TWISTERS, a new and exciting chapter that takes the story in a fresh direction.
TWISTERS Characters And Director
TWISTERS was directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), TWISTERS stars Glen Powell (Anyone But You, Top Gun: Maverick) alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where The Crawdads Sing, Fresh).
The breathtaking thriller also features David Corenswet (Pearl, “The Politician”), Anthony Ramos (In The Heights, Hamilton), and Brandon Perea (Nope).
TWISTERS is distributed by Universal Pictures domestically and by Warner Bros. Pictures internationally.
Where Was TWISTERS Filmed?
Twisters filmed on location in Oklahoma, mostly outdoors in rural areas. When Twisters wasn’t shooting outside, the production filmed at Prairie Surf Studios in Oklahoma City, a former convention center-turned-movie production facility.
Bill Paxton’s Son James Paxton Makes Cameo In TWISTERS!
James Paxton, son of the late Bill Paxton and star of the 1996 film, has a cameo in Twisters. His role is really quick but he plays an irate motel guest, accompanied by his female companion, who confronts the manager and threatens to leave a bad review just as a tornado starts closing in on the motel. James’ character and his partner end up getting swept away by the storm despite efforts from Kate and Tyler telling them to take cover.
Also, to honor Paxton, a Lone Star State native, Lee incorporated a Texas Longhorn belt buckle for James’s wardrobe. I thought this was very special and cool!
TWISTERS Was Inspired By Real-Life Events
The tornadoes in TWISTERS were inspired by real-life events, created using a blend of practical and digital effects. The film features six tornado sequences, but over ten tornadoes were designed, as some split into multiple forms.
The production relied on real footage of storms and tornadoes, much of it captured by professional storm-chaser Sean Casey, adding an extra layer of realism. Director Lee Isaac Chung wanted each tornado to have a unique personality, impacting the story and characters in distinct ways.
The finale tornado was inspired by three real tornadoes, including a massive 2023 Kansas storm and the devastating 2021 Mayfield, Kentucky tornado.
The final scene, where characters take shelter in a movie theater, reflects Chung’s thoughts on the importance of confronting the grandeur and terror of the natural world, rather than being consumed by small screens.
TWISTERS Featured 6 Tornado Scenes
Twisters features six tornado scenes, and each tornado has its own distinct attributes and elements. They are described below, in chronological order, by Visual Effects Supervisor Ben Snow and Special Effects Supervisor Scott R. Fisher.
*First Tornada EF-5: The twister that changes Kate and Javi’s lives in the film’s prologue is the most destructive tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, an EF-5, with a wind speed of over 200 miles per hour, capable of blowing homes off their slabs.
*Second Tornada EF-1: Returning to Oklahoma after five years in New York, Kate encounters a more conventional EF-1 tornado, a classic funnel-cloud twister with wind speeds that range between 86-110 MPH.
*Third Tornado/s EF-2 And EF-3: Kate begins to reconnect with both the thrill of storm chasing and her mission to tame tornadoes when she encounters the rare phenomenon of a single twister splitting into two, one weak (an EF-2), one strong (an EF-3). While the weaker twin dies out quickly, the stronger one rolls through the town of Crystal Springs.
*Fourth Tornada EF-4: Kate’s renewed sense of purpose is challenged when an evening at the rodeo with Tyler turns into a nightmare when an EF-4 twister suddenly manifests and blows through Stillwater. “This tornado is meant to remind us of the monster that derailed Kate’s life in college,” Snow says.
*Fifth Tornada EF-1: To recover from the trauma of Stillwater’s nighttime fourth tornado, Kate returns to her childhood home and reconnects with her mother as well as with her identity as a scientist. Feeling renewed and refocused, Kate teams with Tyler to chase after an EF-1 tornado to test some new tech and some new ideas about how tornadoes might be tamed.
*Sixth And Final Tornada EF-5: The final tornado in Twisters is the sum of all the fearsome storms that preceded it, a minor whirlwind that grows into a full-blown EF-5, born of a massive supercell thunderstorm producing multiple tornadoes all at once. After rumbling through an oil refinery and catching fire, the EF-5 ravages the town of El Reno, toppling a water tower, shredding a farmer’s market, and obliterating a movie theater.
