Keep Your Plumbing in Check This Fall: 3 Easy Tips:

There are several maintenance tasks that should be taken care of in autumn. One of the most important tasks is inspecting the plumbing system in your home. By taking a few hours out of your day this fall, you can save yourself from dealing with the stress of a plumbing disaster come winter. If you don’t know where to start, you can give these useful tips a try.

1 – Disconnect Exterior Sources of Water

If you love to garden or have a pool in your backyard, you probably have one or more exterior sources of water in your home. If you leave these open during the fall, they can become damaged. If left unattended, the minor damage can become severe quickly.

To minimize the chances of water damage, you need to disconnect your interior water lines. Once this is done, you need to drain any remaining water in the hoses, sprinklers or faucets on your property. This will ensure that the water won’t start to freeze as the temperature drops below 0 degrees. If you don’t have time to do this, you can call a plumber in Calgary or any other major city to take care of the job.

2 – Thoroughly Inspect Your Water Heater

In the fall months, a water heater is an essential part of any home. Without a water heater, how could we take warm baths and showers? With this in mind, you can see why you need to inspect your water heater in the fall.

Be sure to visually examine your water heater and look for things like cracking and leaking. These are sure signs of a water heater that needs some tender love and care. While you’re at it, it’s a good idea to flush the water heater. This will clear out any sediment that has built up since the previous flush.

3 – Consider Purchasing Pipe Insulators

Although it may be a little bit early to worry about frozen pipes, it never hurts to be prepared for the future. If you want to avoid getting frozen pipes in the winter, you should install pipe insulators in the fall. These tools are generally made out of an industrial-strength foam that encourages pipes to stay at a consistently warm temperature.

In turn, there is a lower chance that the water inside the pipes will freeze. Not to mention, they can be installed quickly and easily, leaving you with more time to enjoy the fall festivities. Who wouldn’t want these effective items in their home?

If you want to ensure that your plumbing system will work all autumn long, you have to be prepared. Thankfully, these simple tips can get you started on the path to having a toasty warm home and Keep Your Plumbing in Check This Fall.
