It is scary driving, but how about having your teen start driving? I am NOT looking forward to that at all. It is scary enough just having my kids with me on the road. I don’t trust any other driver and always worry about getting in an accident with my kids with me.
I know I will be a nervous wreck when my kids start driving. Ugh. But, that will come and when it does I want them to be prepared. I want them to feel confident and not sense my anxiousness and anxiety! I have 5 tips for new drivers and hope it helps your young drivers and you!
5 Tips For New Drivers
1.Always use your mirrors! Make sure before you start up the car, that your mirrors are positioned correctly so you can see out of all of them. Very important!
2.Always wear your seat belt. I know this is a no-brainer but do it! Make sure the strap goes across your chest and your waist and fasten it. Then give it a little tug to make sure you are in there good and snug!
3.Don’t get discouraged or anxious. Nothing is worse than being anxious or unsure of yourself when you are driving. Start off with small trips here and there with a parent, to gain your confidence behind the wheel. Soon, you will be more confident and sure of yourself and your driving skills.
4. Make sure you know what to do in case you get into an accident. There are resources online to help educate yourself if you ever get into an accident. Also, make sure you have the right things in your car, in case you do get into an accident, like an emergency road kit.
5.Make sure the car you are driving is safe and comfortable for you. Make sure it has airbags, good brakes (duh), and is in good running condition. Also, pay special attention to the dashboard where it will show you if there is something amiss with your ride.
Just be confident, be educated and drive defensively and you should be fine. Becoming a new driver can be scary but also allows you freedom to go places without your parents or guardians. Be safe!
