In this post, we talk about the best ways to use pure magnesium oil at home, its benefits, and who should use it. Magnesium oil is one of those simple wellness products that everyone should have in their home. It can be used in SO many different ways, and it is affordable.
People often use magnesium oil to help with muscle soreness, leg cramps, body aches, tension, and to help them calm down before bedtime so they sleep better.

I like that it can be applied right where you need it when you need it the most. Whether that is on your feet before bed, your legs after a long, stressful day, or sore areas after a workout or strenuous activity. I have been using the Pure Magnesium Oil from Essentially Based, for around 3 weeks now, and it has been so easy to add to my nightly routine.

One thing I want to mention is that even though it is called oil, it is typically a watery solution made with magnesium chloride. Magnesium oil is not a real oil (like coconut oil, body oil, or baby oil, etc.). It is magnesium chloride mixed with water. It gets called oil because it can feel a little slippery on skin!
So, upon your first use, don’t go crazy and try to pour it into your hand or on your skin because it will flow out very quickly and spill everywhere! Ask me how I know…sigh.
So, even though it is called an oil, it doesn’t feel like a thick body oil at all. It feels more like a watery, mineral spray. And, a little bit goes a very long way! This huge bottle (64 ounces!) is going to last me for sooooo long!
This bottle also doesn’t come with a sprayer (even though the description says ‘sprayer’ in it), so I recommend buying an 8-oz glass spray bottle to put some in it. That is what I did, and I slowly poured some of it into a bottle. That made it so much easier to use the pure magnesium oil, and it sprays pretty evenly onto my skin.

I have mainly been using this magnesium oil spray on the bottom of my feet at night right before bed. I only spray a small amount on, and I rub it in really well. Then, I put on my fluffy socks 🙂.
It feels moisturizing, and I have noticed that it helps me feel drowsy and fall asleep a little quicker when I do this. Doing this along with my Moonbrew, and I am out like a light in no time!
This Pure Magnesium Oil is extra strength, USP grade, 100% natural, and made in the USA (yay!!!). It is meant to be used on the skin, especially on areas like the feet, legs, back, shoulders, arms, or anywhere you feel tightness or discomfort.
Some people may feel a light tingling sensation or some itchiness when using topical magnesium, especially if they are new to it, have sensitive skin, or you had just shaved.
If you experience this, just dilute the pure magnesium oil with an equal part of water. You can also rinse it off after 15–20 minutes if you do not want to leave it on overnight. I would start small and see how your skin reacts.
The Best Ways To Use Pure Magnesium Oil At Home
There are so many ways you can use pure magnesium oil at home. Below, are some of the most common and helpful uses.
1. Magnesium Spray for Sleep
This is my favorite way to use it. Applying magnesium oil to the feet at night can be a nice part of a bedtime routine. I like using it before bed because it helps my body feel calmer, and I start to feel drowsy after using it.
Magnesium oil is also really good for feet because it is easy to apply and rub in. If your feet feel tired, dry, sore, or overworked, this can be a nice product to use at the end of the day. It is a simple step that can be added after a shower, before putting on pajamas, or right before getting into bed.
2. Magnesium Spray for Leg Cramps
This magnesium oil spray may be helpful for people who deal with leg cramps or tight calves. You can apply it directly to the calves, thighs, or feet before bed or right after a work shift, after being on your feet all day.
3. Magnesium Spray for Muscle Pain & Soreness
Another popular use for topical magnesium spray is for muscle pain and body soreness. You can spray it onto areas like your back, neck, shoulders, arms, or legs.
This can be helpful after exercising, cleaning, lifting, gardening, running errands, or doing anything that leaves your body feeling tight or sore.
4. Magnesium Spray for Headaches & Tension
Some people use magnesium spray for tension around the neck and shoulders and for headaches (especially when they feel tight or stressed).
However, you shouldn’t spray it near your eyes or directly on your face, but you can apply it to the back of the neck or shoulders and then just massage it in. This may be helpful if your headaches are connected to muscle tension or tightness.
5. Magnesium Oil For Stiff, Sore Joints
This spray may also be nice for people who get stiffness in their hands, wrists, knees, or other joints. You can massage a small amount into those areas when they feel tight or overworked.
This could be helpful after typing on your keyboard all day long (that might be me!), crafting, working with your hands, or doing repetitive tasks.
6. Pure Magnesium Oil Spray As Skincare
This magnesium oil spray feels moisturizing on my skin, especially when I use it on my feet. My feet have become SO soft and I love that! So, it might also be a good addition to your body care and wellness routine if your skin tolerates it well. Maybe start with adding a little bit to your regular body lotion and using it that way. Start with a small amount and test it first!!!
7. Magnesium Spray For Those Stressful Days
One thing I like about this product is that it feels like a small self-care step. On stressful days, spraying it on my feet, legs, or shoulders can help me slow down and relax. It is not complicated, and I like products that are easy enough to actually use every day.
Who Would Like This Magnesium Oil?
I think this Pure Magnesium Oil would be a good fit for people who:
- Deal with occasional leg cramps or muscle tightness
- Have tired feet or sore and/or restless legs
- Prefer topical magnesium instead of swallowing pills
- Like natural wellness products
- Want a made in the USA magnesium oil
The 64oz size is especially nice because you can refill smaller spray bottles and keep one by your bed, one in the bathroom, or one in your gym bag.
For me, the biggest benefit has been it helping me feel relaxed, less sore from a busy day, and my feet are SO soft now! So, lots of great benefits!
Things to Know Before Buying
The main thing to know is that this bottle does not include a sprayer. You will need to pour it into your own spray bottle if you want to use it as a spray. I actually prefer doing that because I can use a smaller bottle that is easier to keep on my nightstand.
Also, because it is watery, be careful when pouring it. And, if you are new to magnesium oil, start with a small amount. Some people may feel tingling or slight itching at first. Do not apply it to cuts, freshly shaved skin, or irritated skin. If you are looking for a topical pure magnesium oil, this is a nice product to try.
*Note: And, of course, ALWAYS consult your doctor before trying anything new (Duh!)
