We all know how dangerous pools can be. I will NEVER own an outdoor large pool as long as I have children in the house. Heck, I will probably never own one, they are too dang high-maintenance. I also know with the little kiddie pool I do have now, for my babies, that I have to watch them like crazy too! Anything can happen…
Anyways, pools are dangerous things to have when there are little ones underfoot. I have read countless times, about children drowning in their home pools and I just cannot fathom that EVER happening to my family, to my babies… I am just heartbroken every time I come across one of those stories 🙁
If you do own a pool, one way to keep it safer, from your precious babies and their friends, is to encase it in some nice glass pool fences. That way, you can see through it and watch AND keep your sweet babies from getting into the pool, while you are away.
There is also some DIY glass pool fencing, that you can buy too. It is just best to be as safe as possible when it comes to your sweet kids and pools. Also, another option is, you can install a best above ground pool, to avoid such a risk.
We use to live next door to some neighbors who had a HUGE outdoor pool. They always invited me and my siblings to go and swim. I never remember any adult watching us either. My big sisters were there though, they were around 13 and 15 at the time. Things were just so much more carefree back then, no one worried so much, but they should have!!!
Because one day I was swimming in that neighbor’s pool and I went under because I slipped. I was under the water for about 30 seconds before my sister came to my aid.
Talk about a SCARY experience for me and my sister!!!! Maybe that experience I had in the pool is why I am SO protective over my kids and them being around water…
That is also why swimming lessons are so important too. I have yet to get my kids into swimming lessons only because my son has no interest and my daughter says she wants to, but then doesn’t, sigh. So, this fall we will work on that more, and hopefully, I will have them signed up for swimming lessons.
My sister has a pool too, she just got it this summer. She has a 6-year-old little boy who absolutely loves the pool. She has always been super careful watching him go in the pool.
She was talking to her husband about putting a deck around it and getting the diy pool fencing kits so that her pool will be more secure from her little boy just wandering in at any given time. He is too brave!!!
So, what is your take on pools? Do you own one? Do you have swimming pool fences around your pool, if you have one?

We don’t have a pool but it is very possible our next home could. We will have both boys in lessons and pool safety classes if that is the case! CPR is a must!

I have had a little boy almost drown in my pool and it’s an experience you can never forget. Learn CPR and attend refresher courses often!

Pools, especially inground ones scare me. We swim at my Dads where there is an inground pool quite often in the Summer. There is no fence around it and that makes all of us nervous as a lot of us cousins have little ones… thankfully my kids respect my rules of not being allowed anywhere near that pool without me.

We had a pool at my last house but my kids were high-school aged so it wasn’t an issue. That being said, I still always worried that some child would somehow find a way to get in it in spite of a fence. Thankfully, that never happened, but we got sick of spending money on maintenance so we ended up taking the pool out and filling the hole.

This is so scary for me. I keep meaning to sign my son up for swim lessons. My husband really wants to put in a pool but not unless it’s absolute safe!

I can totally see why a scary experience like that would make you feel extra protective over your kids. Pools can be great fun, but only if you have appropriate safety measures in place.

I am also so scared of pools. We don’t own one, but if we did I would absolutely invest in pool fencing to go around it. You just can’t take any chances these days with little ones.
