This post is all about Choosing Sunscreen and Tips to Stay Safe in The Sun!! Now that the sun is starting to beat down on us like crazy, it is time to slather on that sunscreen and protect our skin.
Sure, we should wear sunscreen EVERY day of the year, but summertime is when I think about it the most. I have had bad sunburns before, and I NEVER want to ‘go there’ again! OUCH.
Not only are sunburns super painful, but they are downright destructive too. I used to do tanning beds ALL the time, but now that I am older, I opt to NOT use them anymore. I care more for my skin, I just hope it is not too late :/
So, when we all venture outdoors, sunscreen is always with me (and on me, of course!). I have a few tips for using sunscreen below. I hope that it will help someone, somewhere NOT get burned as I did!!

Wear A Hat!
Wear wide-brimmed hats (or any hat as long as it covers your head and some of your face!!) I LOVE the sun-protecting hats from Amazon!
Wearing a wide brimmed hat will help to keep the sun off your face and head. Those areas are SO important to protect from the sun!
Many people forget to protect their heads but you need to remember that the top of your head is exposed the most to sun rays!

Put On Your Sunglasses!
Wearing sunglasses out in the blaring sun is a must for me! I am constantly wearing sunglasses and recently was sent a couple of pairs of sunglasses from DAX Eyewear (hey, that is my hubby’s name!!). You can check out the video I made, showing you these stylish sunnies!
I received a pair of their SHAY sunglasses in black ombre and a pair of their Briggs in clear. I love love love them not only because they have my hubby’s name, but because they are so trendy too! I love how they fit on my face and how they look. Very stylish and they keep that sunlight outta my eyes!

DAX Eyewear SHAY In Black Ombre
The SHAY Aviator sunglasses provide an iconic look. Both women and men can rock these sunnies. The Shay shades come with sleek metal frames and UV 400 protection lenses. They are lightweight so they don’t fall down your face as you’re strutting around town.
With 9 color options from blacked-out lenses on black frames to hot pink lenses on gold frames, you can make a statement with whatever you’re doing that day.

Wear Sun Protecting Clothes!
Wearing sun-protective clothes is one of the easiest ways to guard your skin against harmful UV rays. Unlike sunscreen, which wears off or needs reapplying, sun-protective clothing gives you all-day coverage without the fuss.
These clothes are usually made with tightly woven fabric and rated for UV protection, blocking out both UVA and UVB rays that can cause sunburn, premature aging, and even skin cancer.
So, whether you’re out running errands or lounging at the beach, throwing on a UPF shirt or wide-brim hat is a smart, stylish way to stay safe in the sun! Amazon has a wonderful selection of sun protective clothing! Go check it out!

Stay Hydrated!
Staying hydrated when you’re out in the sun is so important because your body loses water fast through sweat as it tries to cool you down.
If you don’t replace that lost water, you can get dehydrated, which can lead to dizziness, headaches, muscle cramps, or even heat exhaustion.
Drinking plenty of fluids (especially water) helps keep your body temperature in check, your energy up, and your skin looking fresh instead of flushed and dry.
The cup I love to bring on all my adventures in the sun is my Corkcicle Cold Cup with a straw! You can read why I love my Corkcicle so much by reading my review of it!

Take Shade Breaks!
Whether it’s a tree, sun umbrella, or pop-up tent, get out of direct sunlight often and try to take some shade breaks. Taking shade breaks during a long day in the sun gives your body a chance to cool down and reset.
Too much direct sun can lead to overheating, sunburn, or even heatstroke, none of which are fun. Stepping into the shade helps lower your body temperature, protect your skin from UV damage, and gives you a little break from squinting and sweating.

Check the UV index!
If you check the UV index and it is super high, plan your outdoor activities accordingly. Checking the UV index helps you know how strong the sun’s rays are that day.
If the index is high, your risk of sunburn and skin damage goes way up. That’s why it’s smart to plan outdoor fun for early morning or later in the evening, when the sun isn’t as intense. A little planning goes a long way in keeping your skin safe and your day more comfortable!

Slather On The Sunscreen!
Obviously this is a very very important one to do each and every time you go out into the sun! And, even when you don’t, it is still good to put on your sunscreen (I always have some on my face and neck!). Amazon has a great selection of mineral sunscreens (they are the safest and my favorite ones to use!).
How To Choose Sunscreen
We tend to buy sunscreen with a higher factor, but sometimes that does not even work. It really just depends on the sunscreen itself. Make sure you get a QUALITY sunscreen. Read the ingredients and stay away from those chemicals!
Get the more natural ingredient sunscreens (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide as the active ingredients) and make sure your sunscreen is water-resistant. Do your research! But, after a day in the hot sun, go ahead and slather on that coconut oil for nice, smooth skin!
Remember These Tips To Stay Safe In The Sun!
*Put sunscreen on BEFORE you go outdoors! Don’t wait until you are IN the sun to do it.
*If you are going in the water a lot, reapply OFTEN. Don’t just go by what the sunscreen directions say, apply 2 times more often than that! Trust me on this one…
*Even if you DON’T go in the water, still reapply your sunscreen!!!!!
* Remember the tops of your ears, head, between fingers AND toes, and the tops of your feet!! They burn too and more often, much more severely!
*Drink plenty of water! Stay hydrated!
*Make sure you have some shade! Don’t stay out in the blaring sun all day long!
Staying safe in the sun doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun, it just means being smart about it. From wearing protective clothing and staying hydrated to taking shade breaks and checking the UV index, these simple steps can help you enjoy those sunny days without the sunburn or heat exhaustion.
