Ever since I found out I was pregnant, I have really tried my hardest to eat healthily and eat right. It was hard for me because I usually eat whatever I want, whenever I want.
I don’t plan meals (though I am working on that) and I feed my family at different times each day. So, as you can see, I had a lot of changing to do! Still, do! No meal with our family will EVER be perfectly planned. We are a family that does things as we feel. I have no real structure, but this is our family and the way we do things. Each person/family is certainly different and that is okay.
Anyways, back to healthy eating and good nutrition during my pregnancy 🙂
I am trying to eat more fruit (have NEVER been a big fruit eater) and I am trying to drink more milk and just eat healthily. It has been hard. Especially with the first part of this pregnancy when I was so ill. Now that I am in my second trimester, things are better, but not the same as when I am not pregnant. I have bad food aversions and will be hungry to eat something one minute, but when I prepare it I immediately get grossed out. It is mainly like this for me with meats. Ugh.
I am soooooo picky and I cannot help it, I really can’t. So, with that said, I need something else to help make up for my food aversions and not eating as healthy as I should. I always take my prenatal pill, every day, so that at least is giving me what I need somewhat. I have never been a health nut or a foodie, so I don’t know very much about different foods and how your body needs certain things…
I did receive some BrainStrong Prenatals to try. I will start those soon. I have heard lots of good things about them, so maybe this will be a great start for me and my growing baby. I did not know that some 70% of energy supply during fetal development is devoted to brain development during pregnancy and I have already been pregnant 6 times (two live births), you would think I would know these things! Since my baby depends on me for its supply of DHA, I am glad my vitamins help out with this and so does the BrainStrong Prenatals, so I need to start those right away. And, since my DHA deficiencies can impact brain development in my baby, I need to really make sure I am on this and get what I need so I can provide for my baby and help him/her grow as best as I possibly can. Because of the huge need for DHA during pregnancy most OB/GYNs urge expectant moms to take a multivitamin that includes adequate levels of DHA and mine has.
I really like that BrainStrong Prenatals are a complete prenatal multivitamin and has the highest level of folic acid and DHA (up to 75% more DHA!) available without the prescription. That was very interesting to me. So, if I can get that assurance, by using BrainStrong Prenatals, to support a healthy pregnancy and baby, I am good!! I thought my prenatals now were good, but these seem pretty wonderful to me. Oh, these are also from a vegetarian source, not fish, so no fear of potential contaminants! LOVE.
So, with me trying my hardest to get healthy foods in my system and to my baby and taking the right prenatal, I am confident my baby will be receiving all the good stuff he/she needs to develop properly.
Did you have food aversions when you were pregnant? Did it prevent you from eating as healthy as you should have been?
