I have always enjoyed eating fruits and now that I have found California Dried Plums, I can eat them whenever I want. I just throw a bag of them in my bag and I can nibble them up in the car. My kids are also a fan of them.
Now that I am getting older it is nice to know that dried plums help support healthy bones. I never knew that until I started eating them and did a bit of research on them. That is such a nice, added bonus. They also contain vitamins and minerals such as potassium, copper, boron and vitamin K which may have bone protective effects.
It is scary to think of bone loss, as we get older, but it is certainly there and we need to learn more about it. New research shows eating just slightly more than one serving, (about 50 grams or 5 to 6 dried plums), may help maintain bone loss in post-menopausal women. I am 41 now, so I hope I have still a bit before I am going through menopause, but I told my mother and mother-in-law about these findings and now they eat California Dried Plums, for these benefits.
Vitamin K helps improve calcium balance and promotes bone mineralization. A 40 gram serving of dried plums (4-5 prunes; about 100 calories) is considered an excellent source of Vitamin K, which provides 30% of the 80 mcg Daily Value. I thought that was so interesting! So much to learn about a single food!
Dried plums are naturally cholesterol-free and that is why my dad enjoys eating them so much. He is always munching on healthy snacks like California Dried Plums. Dried Plums also promote digestive health, which I already knew. My husband eats them from time-to-time to help with digestive problems.
There are so many benefits, like the ones listed above, from eating California Dried Plums. They are not only so delicious but you benefit greatly from them too. Dried Plums are also delicious to add to recipes!
