It can therefore be helpful to understand why staying hydrated is so vital for your health, to help you stay motivated in drinking enough fluids, and taking steps to improve your health. Why Staying Hydrated Is Important For Your Health and Wellbeing

Here are some of the most important things that insufficient water intake can impact, help you on your journey to better health.

#1 Brain function

Did you know that hydration can impair your brain function? Studies have shown that it can have a significant impact on your mood, concentration, number and severity of headaches, memory, anxiety, and overall general brain performance. This is because, without sufficient water in your system, your brain cells cannot function properly.

#2 Energy levels

Lack of water, both short-term and long-term, can decrease your energy levels. It does this in a variety of ways, firstly, by increasing the chances of suffering from low moods, which can lead to feelings of fatigue. It can also lead to a lack of energy in the muscles, which means your body will not be functioning at an optimum level and muscle movements will be minimal, leaving you feeling more tired and sluggish.

Drinking enough fluids will keep your energy at a good level. Dehydration will deplete your energy levels and require fluids, such as water or IV therapy, depending on the severity, to remedy the situation.

#3 Headaches: Why Staying Hydrated Is Important For Your Health and Wellbeing

Dehydration is one of the most common causes of a headache, and in some cases, a migraine too. Drinking water is a great way to reduce the number of headaches you get, as well as reduce any painful symptoms you may have.

#4 Weight loss

One of the most common barriers to losing weight that people face is not drinking enough water. While people tend to focus on exercise and nutrition, drinking enough water to stay hydrated plays a vital role in weight loss. This is because high water intake can improve your metabolic rate. Increased water intake can also increase satiety.

#5 Exercise performance

Lack of water intake can negatively impact your exercise efforts, especially if you are exercising in high heat, or conducting intense exercise such as high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Not only will you have less energy, as mentioned in the points above, but you will also be sweating, which means you will be losing more water as you exercise, making it feel much heavier and harder to complete.

Your body will not be able to regulate its temperature control properly, and it will mentally get harder to keep moving. Dehydration will impact all areas of your life and should be an important component of looking after your health and wellbeing.
