How long has it been since you and your spouse went on a vacation without your children? Let’s face it, going on vacation with children can be stressful and overwhelming. You have to make sure they’re well taken care of, which can leave you feeling exhausted. A break away from your kids isn’t being selfish.

First Time Enjoying a Vacation Without the Kids: Here’s How to Make the Most of It

You and your spouse need time to yourselves and to reconnect with one another. So when you eventually go on that retreat together without the children, here’s how you can make the most of it!

Healthy Meals for the Family

When you go on vacation, you may be worried that your children aren’t eating healthily. Donuts and ice cream for breakfast may be their idea of a fun meal, but it’s certainly not healthy.

Whether you’re leaving your small kids with older siblings or with a trusted guardian such as their grandparents, you’ll want to ensure they’re all eating right. To relieve the pressure of cooking meals, you can simply look into meal kit delivery services.

You can then order food based on everyone’s preferences and dietary needs. Meal kits are also affordable and will save your family from having to visit the grocery store to buy ingredients. You can ensure your kids are getting the vegetables, vitamins, and proteins they need while you’re away. And they don’t have to cook the meals themselves.

You Deserve the Break – Leave the Guilt Behind!

It’s natural to feel guilty when you’re going on vacation for the first time without your children. You may feel as if you’re abandoning them simply to go have fun. But as the caregiver and breadwinner of your household, you and your spouse deserve a break once in a while.

You may feel guilty and sad when it’s time to leave for your vacation, but you’ll soon feel relaxed when you’re on the road. Chances are, your kids will also appreciate having time away from you and your spouse. It gives them a chance to be independent and run the household while you’re away.

It should be noted that your friends and family may put guilt on you by saying they could never leave their kids behind. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying your time away. As long as your kids are well taken care of, there is nothing to feel guilty about.

Plan Your Adventure

What makes vacations exciting is planning your trip in advance. If you’re driving down to your destination, consider visiting landmarks or popular stops along the way. You could also create an itinerary for your vacation so you can manage your time and experience all the activities and sites you want while you’re away.

Furthermore, you should also establish how much everything will cost so you can budget accordingly. Plan how much you’d like to spend on food, activities, and site seeing so you don’t run out of money too quickly. You should also plan when you’d like to rest in between all the fun. Perhaps visit a spa for a relaxing day of pampering.

Be Flexible with Your Plans

Even if you plan your vacation down to the last detail, there may be situations that will affect your day. For example, you may have planned a day to go water skiing, but then when the day comes, it starts raining.

In this case, you need to be flexible so that you don’t end up hating your vacation. If it’s raining outside, then consider indoor activities such as visiting a restaurant or going to a casino. By being flexible with your plans, you won’t land up disappointed, and you’ll have fun making spontaneous decisions.

Stay In Touch With Family: Enjoying a Vacation Without the Kids

As a parent, it’s perfectly normal to worry about your kids when you’ve been away from them for a couple of days. To give you peace of mind, phone them every evening and in the morning to ensure that everything is running smoothly at home.

Talking to your family every day will ensure you enjoy your time when you’re on vacation because you’ll spend less time worrying. And if you do feel worried at any given time, you can simply phone your children to put your mind at ease. You can also install nanny cams around the house that you can access with your phone, so you can check up on your children regularly.

Be Sure to Stay in the Moment

The purpose of going on vacation without your kids is so you can have time to relax. But the stress of your job, children, and sometimes relationships can cause your mind to wander. You won’t enjoy your time away if you’re constantly thinking about everything that brings you stress and anxiety.

So while you’re on vacation, make every effort to live in the moment. Shut out negative or intrusive thoughts by appreciating everything around you. Meditation may help keep you calm and train your mind to live in the moment.

Final Thoughts

After having your first vacation without the kids, you’ll have more energy and patience to give them more attention when you get home. Use the advice in this post to make the most of your holiday!
