I remember the very first time I rode a bike! Me and my younger brother were learning together. Our two older sisters held the back of our banana seat bikes and then gave us both a big push down a grassy hill and off we went! We never used training wheels, we just learned like that!
Ever since then, I have loved riding a bike! It is so nice to be able to go bike riding, it is so freeing! I used to ride my bike EVERYWHERE! Down the street from my home, when I was younger, was a meat shop. We rode our bikes down there and bought a beef stick and can of pop. Life was very simple back then and I really miss those carefree days!

Now that I am a mommy to three absolutely adorable and wonderful children, it is so much fun to watch them learn to ride their bikes and enjoy it as much as I do! My littlest one is trying so hard to get onto his little balance bike! He is so tiny for his age and it is adorable to watch him trying SO hard to do it!! Biking is such a healthy activity to enjoy with friends or family. Can’t wait to do more of it this summer.
We recently went and shopped around for a Schwinn bike for my daughter. She has a bike but is quickly outgrowing it. So, we are in the market for a new bike for her. We really like Schwinn bikes because they offer a limited lifetime warranty for as long as you own the bike!
Schwinn was established in 1895 (wow!!!) and is America’s oldest bike brand. They offer bikes for all types of riders and terrains which I thought was awesome! I like that Schwinn is sold at our local Walmart store and on Walmart.com. You don’t have to visit a bike specialty store, which is really nice.
Since you always need to wear a bike helmet when riding a bike (adults and children), my daughter had a chance to browse for helmets at our local Walmart too! She found a few that she liked! I have also been teaching my kids to observe and obey all traffic laws, so when they are older and want to ride more in the city (or anywhere!), they will be prepared and have that knowledge.
Bike Checklist Time!
So, summer is finally here, the weather is awesome and you are itching to ride your bike that has been tucked away all winter long, right? Well, before you jump on that bike, you should give it a check-up! You need to make sure everything is in working order. I have provided the Schwinn bike checklist, to highlight the importance of preparing your bike for a ride, below!
Checklist Items (make sure you check each one!!):
- Helmet
- Tires
- Brakes
- Seat
- Reflector
- Pedals
What do you look for when shopping for a new bike?

I need a bike for sure. This weekend we’re headed to the beach and the kids want to go for a long ride. I guess I’ll be renting a bike

We love going on family bike rides and have enjoyed quite a few sunset rides. My husband and I volunteer as ski patrollers in the winter and there is no way anyone is hopping on a bike without a helmet! It’s a good thing and has protected a noggin or two during a flight over the handle bars… 😉

Oh, it’s been years since I’ve been on a bike ride. I think this would be so fun to do as a family!

We are going on a family bike ride in two weeks with Cub Scouts. I really need to make sure I have helmets that fit all my kids!

I love the infographic. We are not a big bike riding family as there is literally no where around us to ride. A major downfall of being in such a rural area.

Teaching kids about bike safety is crucial for them to know early on as kids, so they are truly safe when riding a bike.

Teaching kids about Bicycle safety is important too! I agree those bikes need a good tune up.
