More contagious and deadly than the flu, the coronavirus stepped on the scene in the US early this year and turned life upside down. Adults are on the front line (essential workers), working from home, or unemployed, kids are adjusting to online learning, and many establishments and activities have been canceled to try and slow the spread of coronavirus. With all that’s going on, your family’s health and safety are likely a high priority. Below, are some tips on how to keep your Family Safe and Healthy During the Pandemic.

COVID-19: Keeping Your Family Safe and Healthy During the Pandemic

How do you keep those you love safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic? Here are some suggestions below:

Get The Facts

You can erase a lot of your fears and anxiety while also keeping your family safe and healthy during the pandemic by knowing the facts. There is a lot of negative and inaccurate information circulating online and on television that can trigger negative emotions.

Start by learning about the signs and symptoms of the coronavirus and what to do if you suspect you or a loved one has contracted the virus. Then, learn about ways to keep your home clean and virus-free. Lastly, look to credible news and government sources to learn the latest developments on the coronavirus pandemic.

Talk to Your Family

Life has changed too much to pretend that everything is fine. There is also too much accessible information out there about your own healthcare or medicare and the coronavirus that your children can get a hold of.

Instead of trying to hide the harsh realities of current times or allowing your children to formulate their own understanding and deal with overwhelming emotions negatively, it is best to talk with your family.

Explain what you’ve learned about the coronavirus and ask questions too. Find out what steps they should take to remain safe, and ensure that they know they can come to you with any questions, concerns, or feelings they may be having during this time.

Make Healthy Living a Lifestyle

While it has been determined that the coronavirus can be contracted by anyone in any age range or health condition, improving your health can make a world of difference. It can work to reduce the chances of you contracting the virus and/or strengthen your immune system to beat it. Now, more than ever, it is imperative for families to take healthy living seriously.

Start preparing and eating healthy meals together, find time in your day to work out as a family, kick any bad habits, develop a daily routine to maintain structure, spend time outdoors to boost your mood, and get plenty of rest.

A healthy lifestyle also means maintaining good mental health. You should develop ways to unwind when you’re feeling stressed – whether it’s watching a funny movie or unwinding in a bath and using CBD hemp oil. Other ways to maintain mental health as a family might include spending quality time together, learning a new skill, completing a project, setting goals, or finding creative ways to have fun.

Keep a Clean Home

It has been said that the coronavirus can live on surfaces for several hours which is why you want to keep a clean and organized home to try and reduce the likelihood of anyone in your family getting sick.

Be sure that you’re regularly sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors, wiping down countertops and hard surfaces with antibacterial and disinfectant agents, and washing linens and clothing regularly. You can make it a family affair by asking them to pitch in.

Limit Trips and Visitors

One of the most difficult challenges of sheltering in place is remaining in one place 24 hours a day without any physical connection from loved ones. You’re so used to being able to get up and go as you please or invite people over, that it’s hard to adjust. Be that as it may, to keep your loved ones healthy and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, you have to limit your trips and visitors.

This means only going out for essential needs and avoiding inviting people over to reduce you and your family’s chances of coming in contact with the virus. If you do have to run an errand or invite someone over, make sure you take safety precautions like wearing a mask and gloves, washing your hands, and practicing social distancing.

If you think you or someone in your family has been exposed to the virus, it’s important to get tested. Your test result will inform whether it’s time to put the entire household under quarantine or continue with life as usual. You can get in-home COVID testing in Sacramento and other US cities with a service such as Drip Hydration to get the answers you need quickly.

There’s no doubt about it, life during the pandemic sucks. You’re unable to continue normal activities, anxious about what the future holds, missing social interaction, and stuck in the house trying to manage a new and uncomfortable normal.

It’s a lot to deal with, but if you and your family are going to weather this storm, it is imperative that you hunker down and take measures such as those discussed above to keep everyone healthy and safe.
