Face yoga (the latest skincare trend circulating on platforms like TikTok), is a natural practice that involves a series of facial exercises and massages designed to tone and strengthen the muscles in the face.
These exercises are intended to help lift and tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles, and improve overall facial appearance without the use of cosmetic products or procedures.
“Many of these exercises focus on massaging areas like the forehead, jawline, jowls, and neck to stretch the skin and tone the muscles,” explains Dr. Ntonos.
Much like traditional yoga for the body, face yoga aims to promote relaxation and improve circulation by targeting specific areas such as the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck.
The belief is that, by regularly practicing these movements, individuals can enhance their skin’s elasticity, reduce puffiness, and achieve a more youthful look.

Does Doing Face Yoga Really Work?
While celebrities and people in aesthetics have promoted facial yoga for years, it often seems more like a passing trend with little real medical benefit. These fads come and go, and face yoga doesn’t offer much long-term value, says Dr. Ntonos.
While the concept is appealing and by using facial exercises to lift and tone muscles in your face, jowls, and neck area seem easy enough to do, there’s limited scientific evidence supporting its long-term benefits.
Plus, the idea of ‘yoga’ suggests a relaxing, wellness-promoting practice, but repeatedly stretching and pinching the skin can be uncomfortable and potentially worsen existing conditions. For example, those with acne-prone skin may find that excessive touching can spread bacteria, leading to more breakouts.
When it comes to wrinkles, face yoga might do more harm than good. Stretching delicate areas like the skin around the eyes can actually make wrinkles more pronounced over time.
Though some people claim to see short-term improvements in circulation or muscle tone, professionals tend to view face yoga as a trend that lacks substantial medical backing.
How to Get Better Results Without Face Yoga
“If you’re looking for effective, long-lasting solutions to wrinkles, face yoga isn’t the answer,” says Dr. Ntonos. Instead of doing face yoga, treatments like Botox and other minimally invasive procedures are often recommended for more reliable and lasting anti-aging results.
