With the cold weather and darker days, looking after yourself during winter is incredibly important. The lack of daylight can affect your mood, and the colder temperatures often make you crave comforting meals that aren’t always the healthiest option.
While indulging in these treats (especially during the festivities of Thanksgiving and Christmas) isn’t always bad, it’s important to remember to balance this out with looking after yourself before and after these events, both physically and mentally. Below are some useful winter wellbeing tips for winter to keep in mind this season.
Eat a Healthy Diet
As mentioned above, indulging in some comfort foods is one of the best parts of winter, but too much can have the opposite effect. Make sure you’re balancing your diet with healthier meal options, such as vegetarian bakes, stews with lean meat, and plenty of fish.

With the weather turning colder you might be less motivated to leave the warmth of your home to go to the gym or out for a run. However, it’s still important to make sure you’re getting your daily dose of physical exercise.

This is a habit that should be kept up all year round, but during the winter months, the colder weather can result in chapped skin; or having the central heating turned up in your home or having hotter showers could dry your skin out. Keep some chapstick and a travel-size moisturizer close by at all times in order to keep your skin and lips in good condition.
Take Additional Vitamins
Finally, while a healthy diet should be giving your body all the vitamins it needs, taking some extra supplements could help you keep colds and other winter illnesses like the flu at bay. Vitamin C, in particular, will help to boost your immune system!
