Beauty Tips From Grandma And Why They Work
Grandma learned from her grandma and practiced these beauty tips for years. So, here is a compiled list of helpful, tried, and true beauty and skincare advice from grandma herself!
Don’t use soap
Using too much soap can remove natural oil from the skin and make it dry. You should instead opt for light and oil-based cleansers. Use natural and non-toxic products as much as possible, and always check the ingredients of the skin products before buying them.
Older women preferred making cleansers at home and would use these to clean their skin. Potato, papaya, and pineapples can help exfoliate your skin. You can also dry brush your skin for natural exfoliation.
Sleep is important
One of the pieces of advice that old women stress a lot of importance is getting good sleep at night. Irregular sleep causes dark circles and also makes your face look dull. Less sleep puts stress on the body and causes it to release more adrenaline and cortisol, which results in breakouts and other skin problems.
Sleeping well works wonders for the body because it is during this time that the body repairs itself. With a proper night’s sleep, you feel active throughout the day and are less stressed out. This, in turn, makes your skin glow and radiate.
It is all about food
Ask your grandma and she would say that your skin is all about what you eat. Old women cooked at home and did not like to eat out much, but these days many women tend to overlook the importance of healthy eating food.
When you eat fresh, you feel and look your best. Grandma places a lot of importance on eating plenty of fresh vegetables, and fresh fruits, and drinking a lot of water for glowing skin. One should also avoid saturated fats, processed foods and excess sugars as these make skin oily and can cause pimples and acne.
Vaseline is my best friend
Grandma used vaseline to treat almost every skin problem. Be it using vaseline as a moisturizer for dry skin, as a lip balm for chapped lips, or as a makeup remover, grandma knew every possible use of vaseline in her daily life.
Not only these, but vaseline also has other uses too. It can be used as a highlighter on the cheekbones, as a scrub by mixing it with sea salt, and on areas where you apply perfume so as to make it last longer. Vaseline is indeed a super beauty product for women.
Take baths over showers
Grandma advises taking baths more often than showers. Baths can relax the nerves, remove dead cells and moisturize the body. Taking bath treatments is a good idea and it does not hurt to take it once or twice a week.
You can mix some honey in your bath water to act as a conditioner on your skin. Taking a milk bath can exfoliate the skin naturally and leaves your skin feeling fresh and soft. Rubbing oranges on your elbows and knees is an effective way of treating dry skin. Applying olive oil after a bath protects it from damage against pollution.
Exercise Regularly
It is so important to exercise regularly! I know you are thinking what does this have to do with my skin, but it does! Having a healthy body equals healthy skin! Be sure to get at least 30 minutes of activity each day. Get your heart rate pumping! You can go on a walk, jog, do yoga, etc. Having a healthy body equals healthy skin too!
