Changing Your Air Filter On Your Car

Please Share!

This is only one reason why changing your air filter on your car or at least checking it from time to time, is so important! Last summer, I smelled something horrible in my car. I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find anything anywhere. The smell got worse as the summer got hotter, and I knew I had to dig deeper. It was horrible!

To my horror, I made it to the cabin air filter, pulled it out, and found a litter of dead mice. Yuck. I almost threw up. You see, the cabin air filter is pressed right up against your cabin fan, so basically, every time you turn on your air conditioning or heat, it is blasted through that filter. When was the last time you changed yours?

Hopefully, you never have to experience what I found in my air filter, but it got me thinking, “Does anyone change these regularly?” Though each vehicle is different, you can find most cabin air filters behind your glove box.

I had to pull my glove box out (I found an easy video online that showed me how to do it without breaking the darn thing), then I had easy access to the air filter.

Once you’ve found your air filter, pick up a new one at your local auto parts store. They’re very inexpensive and should be an essential part of your regular maintenance.

Think of how often you blast your air conditioning in the summer or how often you turn on the heat in the winter- do you want nasty debris and contaminants blowing in your face? Probably not! It’s an easy check and an easy fix, so don’t forget to pull it out next time you have a free moment.

How Often Should You Change Your Air Filter?

It’s recommended that you change your air filter once every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. If you live in a particularly dusty place, it should be changed more frequently. It’s always a good idea to at least check your air filter at every oil change.

Why Do I  Need To Change My Air Filter?

If you want a good, smooth running vehicle, it is important to change your air filter on your vehicle. For good, increased fuel efficiency, to prolong the engine life, to reduce emissions from your vehicle into our atmosphere. Those are only a few reasons why it is so important to change the air filter on your car.

How To Change The Air Filter On Your Vehicle

*Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the air filter

*Carefully open the air filter box and take out the dirty air filter

*Put in the new air filter

That is it! Now, you just saved yourself a few bucks and it only took a few minutes. Once you have done it a few times, you will be a pro!

Have you ever changed the air filter on your vehicle?
