It’s alarming how modern times quickly led to countless incidences of eye strain, dry eyes, and fatigue aggravating the natural deterioration of vision as we age — along with the more serious problems of glaucoma and cataracts — sharp eyesight may seem like a distant dream.
Despite these seemingly inevitable obstacles, we can, in fact, enjoy a healthy vision to a ripe old age. Using contemporary techniques, and trusted remedies, healthy eyesight is possible without unpleasant procedures.
In this article we are going to provide tips in two parts, The first is eating for a healthy vision and the other is a list of simple tips consisting of physical exercises to maintain and improve your vision.
Are you eating the best foods for your eyes? There’s more to eye nutrition than just carrots. Learn which food boosts your eye health and helps protect against sight-threatening diseases. Eating healthy is good for your whole body — especially your eyes!
Eat Fish
Eat more fish! Fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which may help protect against dry eyes, macular degeneration, and even cataracts.
If you don’t eat seafood, you can get a good supply of omega-3s by using fish oil supplements or taking vegetarian supplements that contain black currant seed oil or flaxseed oil.
Take note of dark leafy greens, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, yellow peppers, and egg yolks as well since these foods contain potent antioxidants like beta-carotene, zeaxanthin, and lutein — which defend against age-related blindness resulting from macular degeneration.
Drink Healthy Things
Drinking freshly pressed carrot juice, at least twice daily, is an excellent habit that keeps eye problems at bay. Food that is high in sulfur content, lecithin, and cysteine is another helpful addition to the diet.
Examples include garlic, onions, dairy, coconut, and legumes. These edibles fortify the lens of your eye, thereby reducing the risk of cataracts.
Fresh fruits!
Studies show that vitamins, especially Vitamin C, can reduce the risk of all leading eye diseases, including macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma. Professor Grierson believes increasing your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables should be enough to have a protective effect on your eyesight.
How much? Make a fresh fruit smoothie in the mornings. Broccoli, red peppers, and other veg are also good sources – eat raw salads or steam them lightly to make the most of their vitamin content.
Of course, you can still use pharmacy-available eye medications like chlorsigeye drops while following these eye-healthy tips.
Oh! And don’t forget this, if you are a meat lover, make sure to put beef on your menu at least once or twice a week because beef is a good dietary source of Vitamin A.
Now for the other part, we’re going to list down several exercises or routines that can definitely help you support and maintain optimal eyesight.
- The first tip is to hold a pen at arm’s length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it’s about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 8-10 times in total.
- Secondly, start by looking up and then slowly roll it in circles 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise.
- Now rub your palms together to create heat, and then press them lightly against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times, believe me, this feels good.
- For the last tip, using your thumb tips, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 for the other. Repeat the same actions above the midpoint of the eyebrows on the forehead, then under the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose.
Also, make sure to get enough sleep, a minimum of eight hours each night in a sufficiently dark room. That’s it! We hope you get healthier eyes soon.
